영어로 "못 알아들었다" 말하기 - I didn't catch that.

오늘은 상대방의 말을 못 알아들었을 때 영어로 표현하는 방법에 대해 공부해 보겠습니다.

 

I'm sorry. I didn't catch that.
죄송해요. 못 들었어요.

I didn't catch that.

상대방의 말을 못 알아들었을 때 사용하는 표현은 다음과 같아요. 

1. I am sorry. I didn't catch that.
2. I didn't catch what you said.
3. Pardon?
4. Execuse me? 

주변 소음이 심하거나 소리가 너무 작아서 잘 안 들리는 경우는 make out이라는 표현을 사용하기도 합니다. 
1. I can't really make out what they are saying. Can you turn up the volume? 

 

 

#1. catch out을 활용해 문장을 영작해 보세요. 

1. 미안한데 잘 못 들었어요. 한 번만 더 이야기해 주시겠어요?

4. Is there anything you weren't able to catch?

A : Hello. I was wondering if you have the new shoes in size 38.     안녕하세요. 38 사이즈로 새 신발 있는 지 문의드려요.

B : I'm sorry? What size? I didn't catch that.     죄송한데, 무슨 사이즈라고요? 잘 못 들었어요.

 

A : What did you say was the title of your second book? I didn't catch that because my cat knocked somethig over.     두번째 책 제목이 뭐라고 했나요? 저희 집 고양이가 뭘 넘어뜨리는 바람에 못 들었어요.

B : Haha, no problem. I'm just glad you're interested in my work.     하하, 괜찮아요. 제 책에 관심 가져준 것만으로 좋은데요.

 

A : Execuse me, Mr.Kline? I didn't catch the answers to numbers 3 and 4.     죄송한데, Kline 선생님? 3, 4번 답을 못 들었어요.

B : Ah, okay. I'll give the answers again.     아. 그래. 다시 불러줄게.

 

 

 

#3 Cases in point

I'm sorry. I can't catch what you're saying. Everyone, please make sure that your mics are working before entering the meeting. As a reminder, you're not supposed to eat or drink anything. That can be quite distracting. Finally, please make sure to keep your pets and children in another room. (줌 회의 진행자가 참석자들에게) 죄송한데 하시는 말씀이 잘 안 들립니다. 다들 회의 참석전에 마이크가 되는지 확인 꼭 부탁드립니다. 다시한번 말씀드리자면 뭘 드시거나 마시면 안 됩니다. 주의가 산만해질 수 있으니까요. 마지막으로 반려동물이나 아이들은 다른 방에 두시는 것도 잊지 마세요.
